Helping Your Client Visualize a Successful Modern Transformation

No homeowner wants their style selection falling out of popularity over time.  Although modern design is a departure from classic styles, if done well, it can become a sustainable, cutting edge look. We’ve provided you with some simple tips that will allow you to communicate to your clients how it can be done right.

We’ll let Cary Grant, a man of great style, explain this one: “I’m reminded of a piece of advice my father gave me regarding shoes: it has stood me in good stead whenever my own finances were low.  He said it’s better to buy one good pair of shoes than four cheap ones.  One pair made of fine leather could outlast four inferior pairs, and, if well cared for, would continue to proclaim your good judgment and taste no matter how old they become.”

In construction, work that is well done, well-crafted, and well-intended may cost a bit more, but in the long run, it’s an investment that will withstand the trends in time.

The environment must speak to you.  Sleek lines and muted colors are devoid of character without the reflection of your inspiration within those moments.  The effort must feel as though it has purpose and is not simply minimal.

The project should have current reference.  Extremes in any direction tend to go out of style over time.  That red wall may seem like a good idea today, but in time, it may become the eye soar that everybody says, “how could they have done that?”  The work should relate to audience as much as it relates to the creator.

Don’t Shoot for the Bull’s Eye

Perfect isn’t always perfect.  More often than not, middle of the road, if well intended, speaks louder than perfect.  Comfortable spaces and classically inspired rooms with a new twist should be experienced at an even intensity within the home.

Bring in “unique” with furnishings.  Furnishings are transitional and can be easily swapped out.  On the other hand, replacing the purple cabinets in your kitchen will require more effort.  Layered interiors can finish a space and add that timeless feel.
